Contract Awarded for Gambling Study

A study into the social and economic impacts of gambling in Nova Scotia should be ready by April 2008.

The Department of Environment and Labour announced today, May 18, that it has awarded a contract for the study to Anielski Management Inc., of Edmonton.

The research company was one of three bidders considered for the project, which was tendered Nov. 27, 2006.

Anielski Management, which is completing a national framework for socio-economic studies of gambling, was the lowest bidder at $212,269.

The study is to assess and understand the social and economic impacts of gambling in Nova Scotia.

It is a commitment of the provincial gaming strategy and will put Nova Scotia at the forefront of gambling research in Canada.

The Department of Environment and Labour is the lead agency of an interdepartmental committee overseeing the study.

Other agencies include the departments of Health Promotion and Protection, Aboriginal Affairs, Finance and the Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation.
