Gaelic Awareness Month Begins
Highland Village Museum/An Clachan Gàidhealach will mark the beginning of Gaelic Awareness Month on Tuesday, May 1, with a showing of the film, Fàgail Bharraidh-Leaving Barra in the Highland Village Theatre.
Fàgail Bharraidh-Leaving Barra, follows the visit of a group of Scottish Gaels, originally hailing from the Isle of Barra, on a tour of Nova Scotia in October, 2006. The film will be shown at 2 p.m.
The 44-minute production, broadcast nationally in Scotland, was recorded mostly in Gaelic with English subtitles. The Barra visitors explored and experienced some of Nova Scotia's Gaelic language traditions and sought out family connections. Excursions to Halifax, Mabou, Christmas Island, Iona and Brook Village were documented.
This viewing is open to all ages and there is no admission fee.
