Team Nova Scotia Honoured at Province House

Nova Scotia's athletes have been honoured for their effort and dedication at the 2007 Canada Winter Games held in Whitehorse, Yukon.

Premier Rodney MacDonald and Health Promotion and Protection Minister Barry Barnet paid tribute to Team Nova Scotia members today, April 18, at Province House in Halifax.

"Individually and collectively, these young athletes have shown the commitment, desire and hard work it takes to succeed, and I am proud that they represented our province so well," said Premier MacDonald. "I join all Nova Scotians in thanking the athletes, coaches, managers and mission staff for their dedication to sport in our province."

In addition to the eight medals -- a gold, three silver and four bronze -- Team Nova Scotia won in snowboarding, judo, Special Olympics figure skating and boxing, a number of athletes also achieved personal bests.

"Team Nova Scotia demonstrated a spirit of sportsmanship and perseverance that we should all be proud of and celebrate," said Mr. Barnet. "We look forward to building on this performance as we prepare to host the 2011 Canada Winter Games in Halifax."
