Flags Lowered at Province House for Corporal Stannix
Flags at the legislature are lowered to half mast out of respect for Cpl. Christopher Paul Stannix, a reserve member of the Halifax-based Princess Louise Fusiliers.
Cpl. Stannix, of Dartmouth, died of injuries sustained from a roadside bomb Sunday, April 8, while serving with the Canadian Forces in Afghanistan.
"On behalf of the government and the people of Nova Scotia, I want to extend our sympathies to Cpl. Stannix's comrades, the men and women of the Canadian Forces who are deployed to Afghanistan who are dealing with the tragic loss of six of their fellow soldiers, and the men and women of the Princess Louise Fusiliers who have lost one of their soldiers," said Premier Rodney MacDonald.
"I want to express our profound condolences to the family of Cpl. Stannix," said Murray Scott, Minister Responsible for Military Relations. "We share your sorrow and grieve with you. Yesterday, we lost one of our finest and bravest Nova Scotians."
The national flag in front of the statue of Joseph Howe will remain at half mast in commemoration of the Canadians who took part in the Battle for Vimy Ridge 90 years ago today. It will be replaced by the provincial flag tomorrow morning, which will also fly at half mast for Cpl. Stannix.
