Road Reporter Retires
A friend to Nova Scotia drivers for more than 25 years has covered his last kilometre on the road to retirement.
Cam Allen, who served as the road reporter for the Department of Transportation and Public Works since the early 1980s, will retire Saturday, March 31.
Over the years, Cam's voice reports were available on the department's SNOW line and through Environment Canada and several media outlets. Often working in the office over holidays or when storms grounded others, he would gather information from department staff across Nova Scotia and boil it down to a concise, informative report that helped make Nova Scotia's roads safer.
Before joining Transportation and Public Works, Cam's mellifluous tones could be heard on CFDR radio. He was also a travel agent, executive director of the Joseph Howe Festival, and a steel rigger.
His last word to Nova Scotia drivers? "Drive carefully."
