Tenders Called for Cape Breton Road-Improvement Project

A busy intersection will be made safer with the completion of a tender, announced by the Department of Transportation and Public Works.

The tender is for the installation of traffic signals and the construction of a left-turning lane on Trunk 4 at the Central Supplies store, west of the Grand Lake Road intersection. The tender also calls for 0.3 kilometres of repaving.

"There are several businesses at this spot with thousands of vehicles going by everyday," said Angus MacIsaac, Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "These lights and turning lane will make the intersection safer for everyone."

The work is scheduled for completion this summer and is being cost shared with Central Supplies.

The Department of Transportation and Public Works' highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from district offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
