Silver, Bronze for N.S. on Day 14

Shyanne Dolliver of Dartmouth won a silver medal for Nova Scotia at the 2007 Canada Games.

The Special Olympics figure skater came from fifth place in the elements portion of her program, in front of a large Whitehorse crowd, to claim the medal.

"I'm so happy. I can't believe it," said Dolliver. "I wish my mom were here!"

In boxing action, Michael Gerrow of Sydney Mines secured his team's third boxing medal, another bronze, with a loss to Daniel Désorcy of Quebec in the 69 kg category.

Cameron Howatt of Windsor will fight for gold tonight, in advance of the medal presentations, and is assured of at least another silver medal for Nova Scotia.

In other action, Karey-Beth Delory of Larrys River finished seventh overall in the novice singles event, while fencer Eric Dilcher lost in the men's foil quarterfinal.

The curling team beat New Brunswick 7-6 before losing 6-4 to Alberta in a tie-breaker. They will play for fifth place this evening. The women's hockey team lost 6-1 to Manitoba and will play a placement game today.

Alpine Ski wrapped up competition yesterday with a 14th-place finish from James Boudreau of Halifax, a 16th-place finish from Brendan Wilton, and an 18th-place finish from Colin MacPherson.

Today is the final day for competition at the Games.

Team Nova Scotia 2007 has 290 members -- 213 athletes, 36 coaches, 23 managers, three artists and 15 mission staff.

The Canada Games is the country's largest amateur multi-sport event. More than 3,600 athletes, coaches and managers are gathering in Whitehorse to compete for 1,122 medals in 22 sports from Feb. 23 to March 10.
