Boxers Secure Medals for Team N.S.
Nova Scotia's boxers are ringing up medals in Whitehorse, Yukon at the 2007 Canada Winter Games.
The boxing team has secured four medals for Team Nova Scotia, the first two, both bronze, coming from Brody Blair of Pictou and Sonny McLellan of Berwick.
Blair lost by a count of 32-20 in the 64 kg category to Mponda Kalunga of Newfoundland to take the bronze medal. McLellan lost by a count of 34-14 in the 75 kg category to Andrew Graham of Alberta. The medals will be the third and fourth for Team Nova Scotia, to be awarded on Friday, March 9.
Michael Gerrow of Sydney Mines and Cameron Howatt of Windsor will compete in semifinals today to determine whether they will fight for gold on Friday.
In curling action Wednesday, the men's team defeated Alberta 7-3. The women's hockey team fell to Manitoba 7-2. The table tennis team won eight of 10 matches.
Figure skater Karey-Beth Delorey of Larry's River sits in third place heading into her free skate today, while Shyanne Dolliver of Dartmouth is fifth heading into her solo skate in Special Olympics figure skating competition.
On the ski hill yesterday, James Boudreau of Halifax had a personal best in the Giant Slalom, finishing 10th. Fencer Eric Dilcher of Halifax is fourth and will compete in a quarterfinal today. A win will guarantee him a medal.

Team Nova Scotia 2007 has 290 members -- 213 athletes, 36 coaches, 23 managers, three artists and 15 mission staff.
The Canada Games is the country's largest amateur multi-sport event. More than 3,600 athletes, coaches and managers are gathering in Whitehorse to compete for 1,122 medals in 22 sports from Feb. 23 to March 10.
