Former Nova Scotian Remembered

Flags above Province House have been lowered to half mast today, Feb. 20, out of respect for Sgt. John Rode, who died Valentine's Day in Baqoubah, Iraq, after his military vehicle hit a bomb.

Sgt. Rode, 24, lived in Dartmouth until 1999. He moved to the U.S., where he became a mechanic for the U.S. army.

"Speaking for all Nova Scotians and on behalf of Premier Rodney MacDonald, our sympathies go out to Sgt. Rode's family and friends," said Murray Scott, Minister responsible for Military Relations.

Sgt. Rode has relatives in Nova Scotia and other parts of Canada, as well as in the U.S.
