Water Science Forum in Sydney on Feb. 21

Nova Scotians are invited to learn about the science of water resource management from the experts at a forum in Sydney at Cape Breton University on Wednesday, Feb. 21.

"Careful management of our water resources is a responsibility shared by all Nova Scotians," said Environment and Labour Minister Mark Parent. "Especially in this era of climate change, it is important for all of us -- farmers, industry, business, governments, citizens -- to learn more about how best to use and protect our water resources."

The Department of Environment and Labour, in partnership with Cape Breton University, will host the forum for environmental organizations and interested individuals. Academic specialists will give presentations along with experts from First Nations and non-profit groups. The minister of environment and labour will speak on water resources and the environment in Nova Scotia.

The water science forum will be an opportunity to exchange knowledge with interested groups and the public about managing water resources. Participants will have a chance to study successful watershed management practices, in the Bras d'Or Lakes area, and elsewhere in Nova Scotia and Canada.

The forum begins at 8:30 a.m. and is free. Seating is limited. Pre-registration is encouraged.

Interested individuals may register by calling 902-535-3830. For more information see the website at www.gov.ns.ca/enla/water/forum .
