Tender Called for Cape Breton Paving Project

The hearts of drivers in the Sydney area should be warmed today, Feb. 14, by a paving tender called by the province.

The tender is for the repaving of the following three sections of highway:

  • Highway 125: eastbound lanes from east of Exit 2 for 4.5 kilometres to the end of twinning. Also included is repaving of the eastbound on- and off-ramps at Exits 3 and 4

  • Highway 105: from one kilometre east of the intersection of Highway 125 for 1.6 kilometres to the CNR overpass

  • Groves Point Road: from the intersection of Highway 105 for 5.8 kilometres to just past the entrance to Groves Point Provincial Park.

"These two sections of 100-series highway are quite busy and need to be returned to top shape," said Angus MacIsaac, Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "Groves Point is a popular spot that will be easier to reach when this project is completed."

The work is scheduled for completion this fall.

The Department of Transportation and Public Works' highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from district offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro, and Sydney.
