United Way Provincial Campaign Goes Over the Top
Provincial government employees in the Halifax area once again demonstrated their generosity by supporting the United Way of Halifax Region Workplace Campaign with record-breaking donations in 2006.
The provincial government's campaign raised $405,000 -- more than its goal of $380,000, and 14 per cent more than was raised during the 2005 campaign.
"More than 250 volunteers helped out with our campaign," said provincial division chair David Darrow, deputy minister of Transportation and Public Works, this year's lead agency. "I was consistently impressed by their work ethic, originality, and commitment."
"Transportation and Public Works did an amazing job as our lead agency and has really set the bar at a high level for 2007," said Premier Rodney MacDonald. "Thank you to our volunteers, our sponsors and, of course, to the donors who once again proved that Nova Scotia government employees are second to none when it comes to caring for one another within their communities."
The money raised will support the United Way's work, which includes funding to more than 100 programs at 51 agencies that strengthen neighbourhoods so people can reach their potential in the Halifax Regional Municipality.
