Falmouth District Elementary School is the Ice Dreams Showcase of the Year
Today, Feb. 9, students from Falmouth District Elementary School will be celebrating their school's outdoor ice rink with the help of the Department of Health Promotion and Protection, Go for Green and the Recreation Facility Association of Nova Scotia.
The school was selected as this year's showcase. Falmouth District Elementary is a great example of staying active and enjoying outdoor winter fun. The initiative was started by Fred MacLean the school's principal, Kathy Kehoe, director of recreation, and the school's active students.
The volunteers and students of Falmouth District Elementary have taken the lead in maintaining the ice rink.
"It's great to have the kids involved with the project," said Ms. Kehoe. "We're teaching a lot of lessons here. I'm proud of them for taking on the responsibility."
Ice Dreams, a Go for Green national initiative, is delivered provincially by Health Promotion and Protection and the Recreation Facility Association of Nova Scotia. As part of the campaign to Take the Roof of Winter, Ice Dreams encourages the development and use of new and existing outdoor rinks in Canada.
