4-H Members Learn Leadership Skills at Conference
Seventy 4-H members will focus on leadership skills this weekend at Agri-Tech Park in Bible Hill.
The Nova Scotia 4-H provincial conference will be held on Feb. 3 and 4.
"The 4-H program teaches youth to be leaders in their community giving them technical, communications and life skills," said Brooke Taylor, Minister of Agriculture. "This conference is an excellent opportunity for the delegates to learn new skills that will help them be successful personally, and professionally."
Members will learn about excellence in sports, communications, physical fitness and career options during the weekend. Entertaining and educational sessions will encourage the 4-H members to set and reach their goals, be community leaders and exhibit good sportsmanship. Delegates will tour the Nova Scotia Agricultural College, participate in various recreation activities and develop lasting friendships.
Several speakers will participate in the conference. Tyler Hayden of Adventure Wave Consultants will give a presentation on "Livin' Life Large" and take 4-H members through the Gladiator Olympics. Several 4-H members will talk about their experiences at the national 4-H awards and summer employment opportunities. Corey Robinson, a wrestler and athlete with the Esteem Team, will discuss setting goals and good sportsmanship.
"At this conference, 4-H members can learn specific skills and network with other 4-H members," said Arthur Pick, acting manager, 4-H and Rural Organizations. "We know the program will inspire the delegates to develop a passion to be strong leaders in every aspect of their lives, and see their future as a world open to endless possibilities."
Sponsors of the conference are the Agri-food Industry Development Fund; Canadian 4-H Council -- Agrium 4-H Youth Leadership Initiative Program; Nova Scotia Departments of Agriculture, Health, and Health Protection and Promotion; Nova Scotia 4-H Council; Nova Scotia Agricultural College and the Nova Scotia Agricultural Awareness Committee.
