Badminton Team Named for Canada Games

Health Promotion and Protection (March 2006 - Jan. 2011)

Ten Nova Scotia badminton players will rally their way to Whitehorse, Yukon, at the 2007 Canada Winter Games from Feb. 23 to March 10.

The final team was selected after a three-year selection process. The team consists of:

  • Alexandria Bauld of Stewiacke
  • Andrew Brennan of Antigonish
  • Hannah Brennan of Antigonish
  • Ryan Brennan of Antigonish
  • Myles Dalton of Pugwash
  • Lynnette McCormack of Pugwash
  • Cole McGrath of Pugwash
  • Jennifer Medeivos of Bedford
  • Ajit Sidhu of Lower Sackville
  • Jacobi Vanderweit of Port Williams

The Games will be a family affair for siblings Andrew Brennan, 19, Ryan Brennan, 21, and Hannah Brennan, 16.

In preparation for the Games, the team will continue individual training and tournament schedules. The team meets four or five times a year to train as a group and review training programs. Each athlete plays three or four times a week.

The team will be accompanied by coach Elliot Beals of Dartmouth and manager Shirley Thomas of Halifax.

"Badminton is an individual sport, but there is a great team atmosphere at the Games," says Mr. Beals. "We work really well together; it's going to be a great event."

Team Nova Scotia 2007 has 290 members -- 213 athletes, 36 coaches, 23 managers, three artists and 15 mission staff. See the team's website at ns.canadagames.ca for the latest information on Team Nova Scotia.

The Canada Games is the country's largest amateur multi-sport event. More than 3,600 athletes, coaches and managers will gather in Whitehorse to compete for 1,122 medals in 22 sports.
