Premier and Companies Bring Opportunity, Partnership to West
Premier Rodney MacDonald is leading six Nova Scotia companies and the Nova Scotia Community College on a trade mission to Alberta today, Jan. 25, to try to capitalize on opportunities from Alberta's booming economy.
"Our companies can offer products and services to Alberta companies that are having difficulty meeting their demand," said Premier MacDonald. "The success of our Nova Scotia companies in this market will allow them to grow, will allow our economy to grow, and will allow our people and families to stay at home."
The companies on the mission are:
- A.F. Theriault & Son Ltd., Meteghan River, Clare Municipality
- The MacGregor Group, New Glasgow
- Laurentian Steel Fabricators, Sydney
- J.D. Irving Offshore Services, Halifax
- Neill and Gunter, Dartmouth
- Trenton Works Ltd., Trenton
- Nova Scotia Community College, Halifax
Laurentian Steel Fabricators of Sydney is a leading custom manufacturer with extensive lay-down and assembly space, and direct rail and water transportation links. CEO James Wooder said there are many opportunities in Alberta that fit perfectly with the direction his company is taking.
"We've gained specific expertise in the oil and gas industry in the past 10 to 15 years with the development of the industry here," said Mr. Wooder. "We know the demand that some Alberta companies are now facing, so we feel we can leverage our new skills and expertise to take advantage of that demand."
The Nova Scotia delegation is part of the Council of Atlantic Premiers trade mission to the province, which has 30 companies and four provincial premiers travelling to Edmonton and Fort McMurray over three days to promote partnerships between Alberta and local companies.
