Fencing Team Named for Canada Games
Eighteen fencers will be en garde for Team Nova Scotia in Whitehorse, Yukon, at the 2007 Canada Winter Games from Feb. 23 to March 10.
The final team, selected after a year of tournaments and clinics throughout the Maritimes, is as follows:

Epee is a fencing weapon with triangular cross-section blade and a large bell guard. Foil is a fencing weapon with rectangular cross-section blade and a small bell guard. Sabre is a fencing weapon with a flat blade and knuckle guard, used with cutting or thrusting actions.
Coach Florian Friedrich of Halifax will lead the team along with manager, Diane Buote of Goffs.
"I'm so proud of the team, they are so supportive of each other and they gel really well," said Ms. Buote. "The team has been working hard together, and we have a good chance to win both individual and team medals."
In preparation for the event the team will continue with training and clinics throughout the Maritimes.
Team Nova Scotia 2007 has 290 members -- 213 athletes, 36 coaches, 23 managers, three artists and 15 mission staff. See the team's website at ns.canadagames.ca for the latest information on Team Nova Scotia.
The Canada Games is the country's largest amateur multi-sport event. More than 3,600 athletes, coaches and managers will gather in Whitehorse to compete for 1,122 medals in 22 sports.
