Roads Safer For Public Service Vehicles

New regulations will make Nova Scotia's roads safer for drivers of postal delivery vehicles and other public service vehicles.

The Department of Transportation and Public Works has broadened regulations under the Motor Vehicle Act to allow revolving or flashing warning lights on all vehicles used by federal, provincial, and municipal departments, and crown agencies that drive slowly or make frequent stops while delivering a public service.

"Drivers of public service vehicles will be better protected under the new regulations," said Angus MacIsaac, Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "The improved regulations also mean all road users will be better alerted to frequent stops made by public service vehicles."

The regulations also apply to other vehicles, such as road maintenance vehicles, construction equipment and garbage trucks.
