Legal Services Company Opens Office in Yarmouth
Corporation Service Company (CSC) expects to hire up to 78 new employees over the next five years at its new location in the Hebron Industrial Park in Yarmouth County.
In May, Corporation Service Company, based in Delaware, purchased the corporate services division of Register.com. The division employed 73 people, and CSC has since hired nine additional employees.
Corporation Service Company, a leader in the legal services industry, will lease space at the industrial park and begin recruiting additional employees with the help of a payroll rebate of up to $1,477,350 from Nova Scotia Business Inc. (NSBI).
Three levels of government contributed $1.85 million toward the costs of office space for the company, currently under construction.
Economic Development Minister Richard Hurlburt made the announcement today, Dec. 11, along with Jim Stoltzfus of Corporation Service Company; Roger King with the Yarmouth Area Industrial Commission; Bryan Smith, warden of the Municipality of Yarmouth; Stephen Lund, president and CEO of NSBI; and Senator Gerald Comeau, representing Peter MacKay, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA).
"This announcement is a great example of groups working together to create new opportunities for Nova Scotians," said Mr. Hurlburt. "Yarmouth County is gaining a successful company, one that will benefit from talented employees and a supportive community."
"Corporation Service Company has been a leading provider of legal and corporate services for over 100 years," said Mr. Stoltzfus. "We are quite excited about our expansion into the corporate domain management business, and are delighted that Yarmouth and Nova Scotia have welcomed us with open arms."
During construction, CSC will share space with Register.com and start hiring new employees, making use of a performance-based payroll rebate from NSBI.
"CSC is a good fit for Yarmouth," said Mr. Lund. "The payroll rebate is a smart investment -- one that will strengthen the economic base of this community."
The new 12,000-square-foot building will be owned by the industrial commission and leased back to Corporation Service Company. Funding was a group effort for the $1.85 million project.
"This exciting project proves we are all committed to bringing new jobs to our area," said Mr. Smith. "We recognize that the strengths and values of our workforce played a major role in CSC's decision to expand operations here in Yarmouth."
The commission helped secure almost half the funding for the construction project, $850,000, from the municipalities of Yarmouth and Argyle, and the Town of Yarmouth. Economic Development contributed $300,000 with the remaining $700,000 provided by ACOA.
The Yarmouth Area Industrial Commission is a non-profit society mandated to encourage the expansion of existing industries and attract new business to the Yarmouth area.
Corporation Service Company has been in business since 1899 and has about 1,100 employees. It provides legal and financial services, including corporate compliance and governance, intellectual property management, and domain name management services.
