Highway 103 Greatly Improved

Nova Scotia's newly twinned 15-kilometre section of Highway 103 is giving motorists something to celebrate.

Travel on the highway became easier and safer when the four-year, $46-million project was completed last month.

Department of Transportation and Public Works Minister Angus MacIsaac announced the completion of the newly twinned section between Exit 3 and Exit 5 today, Dec. 11.

"The twinning of Highway 103 is a great improvement to our highway infrastructure, and was 100 per cent provincially funded," said Mr. MacIsaac. "With four lanes of highway from Exit 5 east to Halifax, motorists have a much better and safer road to travel."

Mr. MacIsaac thanked the workers, contractors, and department staff who built the twinned road.

"Road building is never an easy job, especially when many thousands of tonnes of rock stand in your way," said Mr. MacIsaac. "This was a complex project, and also a very rewarding one."

Another major project on Highway 103 -- the 8.3 kilometre Barrington Bypass -- is expected to be completed in the next two weeks.
