Three New Members Join WDCL Board of Directors
Three well-known Nova Scotians have joined the Waterfront Development Corporation Limited board of directors.
George Archibald, William (Bill) Gates and Don McIver were all appointed by Richard Hurlburt, Minister of Economic Development.
"These talented individuals bring a broad array of skills and accomplishments to the corporation," said Mr. Hurlburt. "I am confident they will make a significant contribution to the corporation's operations, and I am delighted to welcome them to the board."
Mr. Archibald is a former MLA (1984 to 1999) and owned and operated Archway Farms Ltd. in Northville, Kings Co. Mr. Gates, an engineer, was president of the Special Olympics, Nova Scotia, and president of W.H. Gates Utility Consultants Ltd., Halifax. Don McIver, is a former chief economist with Sun Life, and research director of the Atlantic Institute for Market Studies.
Also serving on the corporation board are: Eric Thomson, Quackenbush Thomson & Robbins, as chair; Alan Barkhouse, formerly KPMG; Ken Giffin, K.R. Giffin Chartered Accountants; Ruth Goldbloom, a member of the Order of Canada; David Harrison, Harrison Associates; Jack Leedham, Nova Scotia Building Officials Association; and Brian Lugar, NovaCorp Properties Limited.
"The three new additions to the board bring more than 75 years of combined experience and knowledge that will help shape the future direction of the Waterfront Development Corporation," said Mr. Thomson. "Our board plays a large role in determining the projects in which we participate, and members serve as ambassadors to the community."
Board members apply to serve on agencies boards and commissions and are then appointed by the ministers responsible for those groups.
The Waterfront Development Corporation Limited is a provincial Crown corporation that has been planning, co-ordinating, promoting and developing properties, events and activities on designated waterfronts around Halifax Harbour for the last 30 years. Recent projects include the Halifax, Dartmouth and Bedford Harbourwalk Trails, the Queen's Landing Development Project, the Halifax Harbour Festival, and the Corporation's signature events: Nova Scotia Tall Ships Festival 2007 and 2009.
