Old-fashioned Christmas Enjoys Continued Growth
The 2006 Old-fashioned Christmas at Sherbrooke Village was the most successful yet.
Last year's event attracted 6,300 people. This year more than 6,800 have attended.
"Opening night was our best yet and more than 3,500 people participated in the celebrations," said George Brothers, acting director, Sherbrooke Village.
Events such as the Groaning Board Christmas Feast and Christmas concert were sold out and the committee is looking at ways to expand next year.
Attendance for family and children's activities, and many of the other food-related events, were up significantly.
"The business community benefitted greatly from the event this year, as did community groups such as the Historic Sherbrooke Village Development Society and the St. Mary's Lions Club," said Brenda Alexander, chair of the Old-fashioned Christmas committee.
"Once again, our volunteers and staff came through for us in a big way to ensure that the event held up to the high standards that were set in the past."
Christmas lights on display at many houses and buildings in the village will remain on until the new year.
Next year will mark the 12th anniversary of Old-fashioned Christmas and opening night activities are tentatively scheduled for Friday, Nov. 23.
