New Call Centre Company for Queens

The people of Queens County have a new employer that will immediately take over a call centre space in Liverpool.

On-Line Support Inc., a long-standing and successful Maritime-based call centre operator, will immediately begin operations in the building formerly occupied by Lightbridge.

"The provincial government, the Region of Queens Municipality and On-Line Support worked together for the benefit of the community and local workers," said Premier Rodney MacDonald. "This is another example of how a team approach is the way to supporting growth in rural Nova Scotia."

The Office of Economic Development and Nova Scotia Business Inc. (NSBI) worked together to find a flexible and innovative solution that's a fit for the company and benefits the community.

NSBI will reassign the payroll rebate it had announced with former call centre operator, Lightbridge, in 2003. On-Line Support will use the rebates to create and maintain jobs. The Office of Economic Development will provide funding to cover infrastructure upgrades.

"The workforce in Liverpool and Queens County are hard-working and committed to their community," said Economic Development Minister Richard Hurlburt.

"This is great news for the region and most particularly for those who will obtain employment with On-Line support," said Region of Queens Municipality Mayor John Leefe. "Our partners at NSBI and the Office of Economic Development have worked step-by-step with the region to make this happen. Today's announcement would not be possible without their support."
