Province Looking for Volunteers

The province is asking Nova Scotians to step forward if they would like to make a difference in the lives of their fellow citizens.

This weekend, the government of Nova Scotia will advertise opportunities to serve on various provincial agencies, boards, and commissions, such as library boards and health authorities. The ad will appear in selected newspapers on Saturday, Oct. 21. The government's website www.gov.ns.ca will also carry the ad for a limited time.

"We need people from all walks of life who can share valuable expertise to help make Nova Scotia one of the best places to live," said Keith Colwell, chair of the legislature's all-party standing committee on human resources.

People can explore the possibilities for getting involved by going on the website at www.gov.ns.ca/exec_council or by calling toll-free, 1-866-206-6844 (424-4877 in Halifax Regional Municipality).

Previous government experience is not required to volunteer for many of these groups. However, some are looking for the input of people from a particular line of work or from a specific geographic area.

As part of the process, successful applicants must consent to the public release of their application information.
