Selling to Government in Halifax

The province is helping businesses in Halifax Regional Municipality sell more goods and services to the public sector.

Buyers from three levels of government, universities and colleges, school boards and health authorities will be available to meet local business operators.

"This trade show is a great way for businesses in the Halifax area to connect with the public sector and to increase their market share," said Richard Hurlburt, Minister of Economic Development.

The show will allow vendors to learn how to increase sales to the public sector. They can meet public sector buyers to discuss opportunities face-to-face.

Eighty per cent of the $1 billion that Nova Scotia's public sector spends annually on goods, services, and construction is purchased from businesses located within the province.

The trade show is co-hosted by the Office of Economic Development and Greater Halifax Partnership.

"We are very pleased to be co-sponsoring this trade show for the second time," said Stephen Dempsey, Greater Halifax Partnership president and CEO. "Last year's event was very successful and we're positive this year's will be even more so."

Business operators are invited to meet public sector purchasers at a trade show in Halifax on Thursday, Oct. 19, between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. in the Port Royal Room at the World Trade and Convention Centre, 1800 Argyle St., Halifax. A special presentation on how to sell to government will be made at 1 p.m. in Highland Suite 9.

The province's Supplier Development Program is encouraging more Nova Scotia companies to sell to government. It helps small business operators learn how to bid on government goods and services, and provides outreach services and community workshops on accessing business opportunities with government.
