New Manager Named to Cabinet Office
Scott Boyd, longtime regional television personality, producer and community volunteer, is the new manager of the Cape Breton cabinet office, Premier Rodney MacDonald announced today, Oct. 13.
"The province is committed to continuing to give the people of Cape Breton a strong voice and conduit to government through the office," said Premier MacDonald. "Mr. Boyd's background in communications, management, and his extensive volunteer activities will bring a renewed focus to the role of the office."
Mr. Boyd worked for ATV/ASN from 1992 to 2003 where he became well known for his role as host of Breakfast Television, winning the East Coast Music Award for Media Person of the Year in 2003. He also served as producer in various capacities at the station. After leaving television, he returned home to Sydney where he became general manager of Wataire Industries.
Mr. Boyd has volunteered for numerous community organizations. He has helped promote and host events including the Christmas Daddies Sydney and Halifax and the IWK Telethon Sydney and Halifax, and for the Canadian Mental Health Association, Cape Breton branch. He was also honorary chairperson and co-ordinator for the Maritime Ride for Sight.
"Scott Boyd has an infectious enthusiasm, and I know he will be channelling that enthusiasm in his new role to promote Cape Breton and to help the region take advantage of the tremendous attributes of the island," the premier said.
Located in the Provincial Building on Prince Street in Sydney, the Cape Breton cabinet office was established in 1999 to provide the region with guaranteed access to provincial decision-makers.
Interviews for the manager's position were carried out through Executive Council office. Mr. Boyd's appointment took effect Friday, Oct. 6.
