Final Contract Awarded for Barrington Bypass

The Department of Transportation and Public Works has awarded a $6.8-million contract to complete the final stage of the Barrington bypass on Highway 103.

The contract, awarded to Dexter Construction, is for 8.7 kilometres of pavement on a new section of Highway 103 from Barrington to Oak Park. Also included is pavement on the ramps and the Oak Park connector. The contractor is already doing preliminary work at the site and full-scale construction will start shortly.

"Work on two related Highway 103 projects (the overpass and the bridge over the Barrington River) is nearing completion," said Murray Scott, acting Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "When all three jobs are completed at the end of November the Barrington bypass will be a reality."

The Department of Transportation and Public Works' highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from district offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro, and Sydney.
