Two Paving Contracts Awarded in Halifax County
Smoother, safer roads for drivers in Halifax County will be the result when work is completed on two paving contracts awarded by the Department of Transportation and Public Works.
One contract, worth $3,188,583, is for repaving on two sections of Trunk 7 in the Musquodoboit Harbour area, from the west end of Pine Hill Drive for 7.3 kilometres to East Petpeswick Road, and from the intersection of the Highway 107, Exit 20 access road for 5.9 kilometres to the west end of Parkers Lane. Also included in the contract is realignment of the intersection of Trunk 7 and Partridge River Road near East Preston to correct a blind spot and make the intersection safer.
The second contract, worth $1,695,660, is for repaving Route 349 in the Ketch Harbour-Sambro area from the intersection of First Pond Drive for 6.5 kilometres to the intersection of Bull Point Road.
Both contracts were awarded to Dexter Construction and have a total value of $4,884,243. Work on the two contracts is scheduled to start this month.
"The improvement of Nova Scotia's highways is one of the government's top priorities," said Angus MacIsaac, Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "This year the department is investing $177 million in road construction projects."
The Department of Transportation and Public Works' highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from district offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro, and Sydney.
