Halifax Harbour Festival Launches Website

Nova Scotians interested in learning more about the events taking place at this year's Halifax Harbour Festival will now be able to do so via the Internet. The updated website for the second annual Halifax Harbour Festival was launched today, Aug. 9, by Waterfront Development Corporation Limited.

The website, www.halifaxharbourfestival.ca , provides regular updates on events and activities included in the festival, which will take place from Friday, Sept. 15, to Sunday, Sept. 17.

"The harbour festival is a great way to celebrate Waterfront Development Corporation Limited's 30 years of bringing the community to the waterfront and to showcase the waterfront to the community," says Bill Campbell, acting president of Waterfront Development Corporation Limited. "There really is something for everyone, plenty of reasons to explore the harbourwalks in Halifax, Dartmouth, Bedford and Eastern Passage."

The 2nd annual Halifax Harbour Festival is presented by the Daily News and includes daytime and early evening entertainment for all ages, at four waterfront venues in Bedford, Dartmouth, Eastern Passage and Halifax.

The festival kicks off on Friday, Sept. 15, with adult country idol at Dartmouth's Alderney Landing, and family entertainment at the Tall Ships Quay Boating Pavilion on the Halifax Harbourwalk.

On Saturday, Sept. 16, the fun continues in Bedford with a family picnic in Dewolfe Park, and a battle of the bands competition for 12- to 18-year-olds at the Firehouse.

Alderney Landing in Dartmouth will be the venue for a family petting zoo, boardwalk artists exhibit, kids country idol and an evening concert with country band, Lace.

At Fisherman's Cove in Eastern Passage, festival activities will include nature and history tours, a marine interpretive centre and art exhibits, and a Ghosts and Grog entertainment night.

Along the Halifax Harbourwalk, highlights for the day will be family activities and free entertainment including the CD release party for Mike Trask and the 2006 Convoy Cup. The 2006 Convoy Cup commemorates the 67th anniversary of the Second World War relief convoy to Europe from Halifax. The Convoy Cup includes a series of events such as an ocean yacht race from Halifax Harbour to Lunenburg and back, Bedford Basin races, and a youth tactics demonstration.

Halifax Harbourwalk highlights for Sunday, Sept. 17, include the Convoy Cup sail past and salute to HMCS Sackville, the Maritime Museum open house, Halifax Port Authority tours and free musical entertainment; a songwriters circle at Alderney Landing; and nature and history tours at Fisherman's Cove.

The Halifax Harbour Festival is produced by Waterfront Development Corporation Limited, a provincial Crown corporation that plans, co-ordinates, promotes and develops properties, events and activities on designated waterfronts around Halifax Harbour.
