Classical Duo To Appear In Sherbrooke
The First Monday Concert Series returns to Sherbrooke with a special concert presented by Musique Royale. The Petric-Forget Duo will perform in the Sherbrooke Courthouse on Monday, Aug. 7, at 7:30 p.m.
This marks the fourth time Sherbrooke Village has hosted the Musique Royale series, which pays tribute to the province's musical heritage and features local, national, and international performers.
"We're very pleased to welcome Musique Royale back to Sherbrooke village," said George Brothers, manager of program development. "The musical virtuosity which the artists have brought to the performances have combined with the marvellous acoustics and intimate setting of our historic Courthouse to produce some truly magical moments. We anticipate many more such moments from this year's presentation."
The concert aims to reach people who would not normally have access to the calibre of performances Musique Royale provides. The travelling program also helps build a sense of community among the province's towns and cities, and introduces visitors to Nova Scotia's rich musical and architectural heritage.
The Petric-Forget Duo made its debut at the 2003 Ottawa Chamber Music Festival. The concert was broadcast live from the Museum of Man for CBC's Disc Drive. The accordion and oboe duo explores old and the new styles, and its programs include works by J.S. Bach, Telemann, Rameau, and Persichetti, and Holliger.
Joseph Petric has played at international festivals and venues and has helped bring new attention to the concert accordion through his performances and his collections of work. His 180 commissioned works and annotated bibliography of more than 1,000 transcriptions form the single largest contribution to the accordion repertoire to date. They are the basis of his 23 full recital programs and 21 concerto offerings.
Studies in oboe at Le Collège Lionel-Groulx de Sainte-Thérèse and at McGill University led Normand Forget to the Conservatory of Music at Oberlin College, USA, where he won the Artistry in Oboe Performance prize. A founding member of le Nouvel Ensemble Moderne (NEM), he has played many world premieres and has toured extensively in Europe, Asia and the United States.
Admission is $15 for adults, and $5 for students. For information contact George Brothers at 1-887-430-7845 or e-mail [email protected] .
