Tender Called for Paving in Lunenburg County

A provincial tender called for paving in the Bridgewater area of Lunenburg County will result in smoother, stronger roads for local motorists.

The Department of Transportation and Public Works has called for tenders to repave Lower Branch Road from the intersection of Oakes Road at Lower Branch for 6.4 kilometres to the intersection of Sarty Road. Also included in the tender is paving on Gail Avenue from Lower Branch Road at Cookville northeasterly for 0.8 kilometres. The Gail Avenue portion is being co-funded by the province and the County of Lunenburg.

"The department builds and maintains most of the roads in the province through our $177-million road construction budget," said Angus MacIsaac, Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "We also work closely with municipalities on cost sharing for smaller projects such as the Gail Avenue portion of this tender."

The Department of Transportation and Public Works' highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from district offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
