Highway Maintenance Project Scheduled
Nova Scotia drivers will benefit from improved road surfaces and extended pavement life as a result of a $1-million maintenance contract awarded by the province.
Transportation and Public Works awarded a $1,040,735 contract to Industrial Cold Milling Ltd. for crack filling and sealing on 9.7 kilometres of highway in Antigonish and Guysborough counties.
Work will begin soon on these sections:
- Pomquet Point Road - from Pomquet-Monks Head Road east for 2.7 kilometres to Pomquet Point Road;
- Route 337 - from south of Mahoneys Beach Road for four kilometres south;
- Jimtown Road - from the intersection of Route 337 east for 0.9 kilometres;
- Mahoneys Beach Road - from the intersection of Route 337 for 0.7 kilometres to the east;
- North Riverside Road - from the end of paving at the intersection of Cross Road west for about 1.8 kilometres.
"Maintaining these roads will prevent larger construction costs later on," said Angus MacIsaac, Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "This project is essential to protect these sections of road and make them safer for drivers."
The Department of Transportation and Public Works' highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from district offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
