Work Started in Cape Breton Paving Projects
Work has started on three paving projects in Cape Breton County worth almost $5 million.
Municipal Ready Mix Ltd. of Sydney started work on a $2,116,544 contract to repave Trunk 4 from east of the Nova Scotia Power access road at Victoria Junction for 2.6 kilometres to Gardiner Road.
The other two contracts were awarded to Dexter Construction Co. Ltd. The first is a $1,590,025 repaving job on the eastbound lanes of Highway 125 from between exits 2 and 3 for 4.5 kilometres toward Sydney. Included in this contract is repaving on Frenchvale Road from the intersection of Highway 125 for one kilometre to the intersection of Beechmount Road. Dexter has also begun work on a $1,217,584 contract for repaving on Trunk 22 from the Louisburg town line north for about 4.5 kilometres.
"These busy roads serve a variety of users including residents, tourists, and industry," said Angus MacIsaac, Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "Making these sections smoother and stronger will be beneficial to all users."
The Department of Transportation and Public Works' highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from district offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
