Legislature Flags Lowered in Sympathy
Out of respect and sympathy, flags are lowered at the legislature today, July 13, for three Canadian military service personnel who died and the four others injured after a Canadian Forces Cormorant helicopter went down in waters off Canso overnight.
"All Nova Scotians are thinking of the families and loved ones of the men who lost their lives and their colleagues who are injured," said Premier Rodney MacDonald.
The premier called for a moment of silence in the legislature to recognize the service personnel and the work of the rescuers.
"We are thankful for the swift efforts of our coast guard, our military crews in the air and to local fishing boats and their crews that the lives of four of the crew were spared," Premier MacDonald said to the House of Assembly.
