Premier Welcomes Announcement of New Lieutenant-Governor

Premier Rodney MacDonald today, June 20, offered sincere congratulations on the appointment of Mayann E. Francis, Nova Scotia's 31st Lieutenant-Governor since Confederation.

"Nova Scotians have witnessed the dedication Ms. Francis has shown to the people of our province, most recently in her role as director and CEO of the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission for the past seven years," said Premier MacDonald. "Ms. Francis has an impressive record of public service and leadership throughout her professional career. I applaud the prime minister's appointment of such a committed Nova Scotian to become Nova Scotia's next Lieutenant-Governor."

Premier MacDonald extended his praise for retiring Lieutenant-Governor Myra Freeman and her husband, Lawrence A. Freeman. During their Honours' six years at Government House, they have encouraged interest from all Nova Scotians, especially young Nova Scotians, in Canadian heritage, volunteerism, leadership and public service.
