Supreme Court Approves Settlement for Youth Centre Employees

Today, June 6, the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia approved a settlement agreement that was reached between the province of Nova Scotia and former employees of the Shelburne Youth Centre and Truro School for Girls.

The $7.5 million settlement ends the lawsuit of Smith, Keating and Branscombe vs. Attorney General of Nova Scotia, and the 76 current and former employees who are represented in the legal action.

The court has also approved the process to distribute these funds. Retired Chief Justice Constance Glube will serve as mediator/adjudicator to award general and special damages among those who are represented in the legal action.
