Nova Scotia Celebrates Museum Weekend

Nova Scotians are encouraged to discover the unique stories, exceptional objects and special places that are part of their heritage during Museum Weekend, June 10 and 11.

"This weekend is an ideal opportunity for people of all ages to explore their local museums," said Judy Streatch, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Heritage.

There are more than 100 museums in communities across Nova Scotia. More than 20 museums are holding special events, tours and activities to welcome visitors during the 11th Annual Museum Weekend.

Visitors can hit the trails with museum interpreters to search for fossils, enjoy a ceilidh, or take in a birding or nature tour during the weekend. There are also opportunities to have fun with hands-on heritage skills, arts and crafts, or play games from the 1800s. Participants can discover fascinating facts about life at sea, sample old-fashioned recipes, or take in a new exhibit.

Museum Weekend annually highlights the province's rich heritage and the significant role museums play in preserving and interpreting local culture and natural history.
