Canadian Rivers Day in Nova Scotia
Nova Scotians are being encouraged to celebrate Canadian Rivers Day on Sunday, June 11.
"Every year, we take one day to celebrate the importance of rivers in Nova Scotia," said Carolyn Bolivar-Getson, Minister of Environment and Labour. "Not only do our rivers provide numerous recreation opportunities for Nova Scotians, but they contribute to the beauty of the province."
There are many ways to celebrate Canadian Rivers Day, including planning a riverside picnic, canoeing, swimming, or even taking a nature walk or bike ride along a river.
"Protecting our urban and rural rivers throughout Nova Scotia is key to environmental protection," said Dan Earle, vice-president of the Tusket River Environmental Protection Association. "Our group is working hard to ensure that all rivers are clean, fresh and safe for fishing and other recreation purposes."
Canadian Rivers Day was initiated in 2003.
