Citadel High Construction Contract Awarded

Education (July 1999 - March 2013)

St. Pat's and Queen Elizabeth high schools, in Halifax, are planning their second to last graduations. That is because a replacement for the two schools is on the way.

Citadel High School, scheduled to open in September 2007, just passed a significant milestone with the awarding of a $24.9-million contract to Pomerleau Construction.

"Site preparation will begin soon, followed by construction activity," said Education Minister Jamie Muir. "This is a major project and it will have a positive educational impact on students, staff and the community."

Citadel High will accommodate about 1,200 students and will cost about $29 million. This includes the cost of demolition of the Nova Scotia Community College's (NSCC) former Bell Road campus and construction of Citadel High.

A related project will move the Halifax Junior Bengal Lancers riding club's paddock area from its current location at the corner of Ahern Avenue and Bell Road to a new site between the stables and the Nova Scotia Museum of Natural History. The current paddock area will be incorporated into the Citadel High campus.
