Two Paving Contracts Awarded For Highway 101 Improvements In Digby County
The province has awarded two paving contracts worth almost $4-million for road improvements on Highway 101 in Digby County.
The Department of Transportation and Public Works awarded both tenders to Dexter Construction Limited.
The first contract, worth $2,260,400, is for repaving from west of Exit 31 near St. Martin for 8.3 kilometres to the Meteghan River Bridge. This also includes repaving of the ramps and parking area at Exit 31.
The second contract, worth $1,682,120, bid is for repaving from Meteghan River Bridge east for about 8.1 kilometres to Exit 29, east of Little Brook Station.
Both contracts are scheduled for completion this summer and have a total value of $3,942,520.
"Safety on Highway 101 involves more than just twinning the road," said Angus MacIsaac Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "It's also essential that we continue to maintain the existing lanes so they will be strong and smooth for all drivers."
The Department of Transportation and Public Works' highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from district offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
