Pork Producers Receive Funding
Nova Scotia pork producers will receive $1.8 million from the provincial government to help them through the challenges of declining market prices, Agriculture Minister Ron Chisholm said today, April 3. The funding will be administered through Pork Nova Scotia.
"The pork industry continues to experience difficulties and this funding will help producers through this tough financial period," said Mr. Chisholm.
Pork prices have been below the cost of production for several years. The commodity board, Pork Nova Scotia, will use the province's non-repayable funding to increase its ability to provide loans to producers.
"Pork Nova Scotia is pleased with this support from the province," said Martin Porskamp, chair of Pork Nova Scotia. "The funding will help producers who are experiencing low market prices and dealing with animal health concerns."
Details regarding the funding are available through Pork Nova Scotia.
