$3.6-Million Paving Contract Will Complete Coxheath Interchange

Construction on the Coxheath interchange near Sydney will be completed by the end of summer.

The Department of Transportation and Public Works has awarded the $3,644,331 paving contract to Municipal Ready Mix Limited. The contract includes grading, gravelling and paving ramps for the interchange, which will be Exit 5A on Highway 125, and the connecting roads to the widened Sydney River bridge. The work involves about 3.5 kilometres.

"This project is the final stage of the government's commitment to complete the Coxheath interchange in 2006," said Angus MacIsaac, Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "The completed interchange will make travel on Highway 125 safer for all drivers."

The Department of Transportation and Public Works' highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from district offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
