Tenders Called to Complete Highway 103 Twinning Project
Two road-paving tenders announced for Highway 103 by the Department of Transportation and Public Works will result in a safe, divided highway to Exit 5 at Tantallon.
The first tender is for paving from the end of the existing twinned highway near Exit 3 west for 6.4 kilometres to the overpass at Exit 4 at Sheldrake Lake. This project is scheduled for completion by the end of July 2006.
The second tender is for paving from Exit 4 west for 9.3 kilometres to west of the overpass at Exit 5 near Tantallon. This project also includes the paving of the ramps at exits four and five and is scheduled for completion by the end of October.
"Traffic has increased dramatically in this area in recent years," said Angus MacIsaac, Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "This twinned section will handle the increased traffic and make the road safer for all users."
The Department of Transportation and Public Works' highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from district offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
