Contract Awarded for Work on Highway 104
Clearing is underway for some twinning work on Highway 104 east of New Glasgow.
A $102,778 road-clearing contract for work in Pictou County was awarded by the Department of Transportation and Public Works to R. Lowell MacLaughlin Enterprises Ltd.
The contract allows for clearing of a section of right-of-way for the new lanes of Highway 104 from the end of the existing twinned highway at New Glasgow for about 9.4 kilometres, east to Exit 27A at Sutherlands River.
This tender is being funded through the Canadian Strategic Infrastructure Fund, a cost-shared agreement between Nova Scotia and the government of Canada.
"Getting this clearing work done is an important early step in the twinning of Highway 104 east of New Glasgow," said Angus MacIsaac, Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "This work is scheduled for completion before the end of March."
The Department of Transportation and Public Works' highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from district offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
