Amendments Further Define Sunday Shopping Regulations

Changes are coming to the Sunday shopping regulations which will help further define the rules for some Nova Scotia businesses.

Amendments to the Retail Business Uniform Closing Day Act regulations, announced today, Feb. 13, say drug stores can dedicate no more than 2,000 square feet of their retail space to food. The amendments further state that a drug store cannot have a retail sales area of more than 20,000 square feet.

"Government is committed to honouring the results of the 2004 Sunday shopping plebiscite," said Justice Minister Michael Baker. "These amendments are meant to further help Nova Scotia businesses determine if they can open on Sunday."

Changes to the legislation came after consultation with various businesses throughout the province. The amendments take effect on March 1.
