Highway 104 Twinning Enters Next Phase in Pictou County
Work to twin Highway 104 will continue during the winter months as a result of a tender announcement by the Department of Transportation and Public Works.
The tender is for the clearing of a section of right-of-way for the new lanes of Highway 104. The clearing will occur from the end of the existing twinned highway at New Glasgow for about 9.4 kilometres east to Exit 27A at Sutherlands River.
The tender closes on Thursday, Feb. 9 and the work is scheduled for completion by the end of March.
"This winter clearing will set the stage for more road construction next summer as the province continues to upgrade Highway 104," said Transportation and Public Works Minister Ron Russell. "This is part of the Trans Canada Highway system and carries considerable traffic."
This tender is being funded through the Canadian Strategic Infrastructure Fund, a cost-shared agreement between Nova Scotia and the government of Canada.
The Department of Transportation and Public Works' highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from district offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
