Tenders Called for Shelburne County Road Project

Drivers in the Cape Sable Island area will experience fewer delays in traffic thanks to a road-improvement project tendered by the province.

The Department of Transportation and Public Works called for tenders today, Jan. 18, to install traffic signals and to make other improvements to the intersection of Trunk 3 and Route 330 near Barrington Passage. The project is scheduled for completion next summer.

"This intersection, where traffic coming off the causeway from Cape Sable Island meets Trunk 3, is often a very busy spot," said Ron Russell, Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "These improvements will make the intersection safer and shorten the time drivers have to wait to enter Trunk 3."

The Department of Transportation and Public Works' highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from district offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
