Team Wins International Accolades
A DVD that uses an animated snowplow to deliver critical safety messages to school children is one of two projects that earned international honours this week for staff at Communications Nova Scotia.
The Communications Nova Scotia team earned two Communicator Awards for audio/visual work it produced in 2005 for the Department Transportation and Public Works.
The Sammy Snowplow DVD received the Award of Excellence for entrants whose ability to communicate puts them among the best in the field.
The Back in Action DVD -- a production designed to help increase awareness about back injury prevention among Transportation and Public Works' staff -- received the Award of Distinction. That award is given to entrants whose projects exceed industry standards in production and communication skills.
"Projects like Sammy Snowplow and Back in Action help showcase the talent that Communications Nova Scotia brings to government," said assistant deputy minister Laura Lee Langley. "The team of Brian Murray, Daniel Mombourquette, Alex Rankin, Alan Blackwood and Paul Cormier was competing with creative teams representing such prestigious international groups as Microsoft, Hewlett Packard and the U.S. Postal Service. We're proud to have our work measured against such standards of excellence."
Based in the United States, the Communicator Awards program is an international competition that recognizes outstanding work in the communications field. Entries are judged by industry professionals who look for companies and individuals whose talent exceeds a high standard of excellence and whose work serves as a benchmark for the industry. This year, more than 3,000 entries from six countries were judged.
Communications Nova Scotia is the central communication planning and support agency of the provincial government. It provides a full range of communications services for all government departments, including advertising, print and electronic publishing, photography and video production, editorial, media and printing services as well as public relations counsel.
