Legislature Internal Economy Board Approves Regulation

Speaker of the House of Assembly Murray Scott will brief members of the media following future meetings of the Legislature Internal Economy Board.

The board agreed at a meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 14, that Mr. Scott would make himself available to the media at the conclusion of all future meetings. The media will also be notified by Communications Nova Scotia in advance of scheduled meetings.

At its meeting, the board approved Internal Economy Board Regulation 2006, effective Jan. 1. The regulation is unchanged from previous announcements of the board and is posted on the website at http://www.gov.ns.ca/legislature/legc/liebreg.pdf . This information will also be linked under the Legislature web page and is also available at the legislative library.

At its meeting the board further discussed a multi-party independent commission of inquiry respecting salaries of members of the legislature. It is hoped that a commission will be established in the relatively near future.

The board also agreed to place a moratorium on all expense increases until after the next provincial general election, save and excepting any increment in mileage allowance that is given to the public service generally.
