Contract Awarded for Commercial Street Bridge in Glace Bay
A $182,105 contract for the upgrading of the deck, sidewalks and railings of Glace Bay's Commercial Street Bridge across Renwick Brook has been awarded by the Department of Transportation and Public Works.
The contract was awarded to Allcrete Restoration. Cost of the project will be shared by the province and the Cape Breton Regional Municipality. It is scheduled for completion in June 2006.
"During the winter, when construction work slows down, we can get our schedule planned and start calling tenders for next year's work," said Ron Russell, Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "This allows the department to get a quick start on projects in the spring."
The Department of Transportation and Public Works' highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from district offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
